Beauty In Today’s World – Is It Real?
A ruthless yearning whispers into to the hearts of women today. This yearning enslaves them all, young and old. Body dissatisfaction is a major problem globally, especially among young women. Much of that has to do with media images.

“Do you want to be beautiful? Do you want to be loved? You will only be happy if you look like her. You will only be loved if you look like her. You are beautiful and perfect if you look like her,” mocks the voice within. Her — the one smiling in the advertisements. “No one wants to see who you really are, do not let your inner self out, mask your sorrow, hide your pain, boost your cleavage, expose your legs, buy this product, try that treatment, cover up your flaws, cry in silence but maintain the façade”, this is probably what many women say to themselves, yes perhaps, including the ones in the advertisements.

There's a big gap between what we're shown as being ideal, where we actually are, and what we aspire to be. In this world of constantly changing fashion and beauty ideal, what we aspire to be is often like a being on a hamster wheel, topped with the constant pressure of being ahead of the game. It’s an unending quest for defeating the real, authentic beauty and graceful aging with fake beauty and bought youth. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with looking good and beautiful. It’s great to have a good carriage and self- image. The reasons for doing what we as women do in the guise of self -care is what’s important. What is vital in this is to be grounded and to maintain balance. The external changes are transient whereas, positive inner attitude are long term. When we are driven by low self-esteem, with the need to fit in, please or be loved and accepted is where issues arise. It leaves us feeling bad about ourselves, about our body, often in competition with our peers which unfortunately often leaves us isolated and lonely.
We would love to hear from you. Do leave us your comments below. What does beauty mean to you? Tell us your views on how media affects the idea of what beauty in today’s world? How can we be true and authentic without feeling the pressure of fitting in? How has the social concept of beauty affected you in your personal life?
